Insets allow you to get away with showing detail of a certain area on a different part of the map. Some infrastructure is just too complicated to squeeze into a high level diagram and sometimes you simply run out of room.
Example 5-1
In example 5-1, I wanted to detail the PCI infrastructure within the data center. I didn’t have enough room in the high-level diagram, so I used an inset.
Example 5-2
Example 5-2 shows another way to do this using enlarged circles as my inset for a high-level PCI diagram.
